In the music industry, Cyndi Lauper who is a legendary person is an excellent song-writer. Moreover, her bold and unique style is the cause of it. However, on the other hand, she had a personal battle which was her struggle with psoriasis.
She amazed Hollywood with her bright garments that no one else can replicate, challenging the notion that using only black in fashion remains as one’s safe zone. To this end, Lauper became a role model to numerous artists, and she was both the reason behind the rise of superstars like Lady Gaga and Billie Eilish and the unstoppable passion for color. Pop and Rock were combined to create a characteristic sound by her and her hairstyles were a large part of her distinctive features as a person. Besides, she was the one grappling with her health problems, despite her adage to everyone, particularly, women, to always have fun.
Lauper was introduced to the music world in the 1980s where her unique fashion sense and artistic expression caught the audience’s imagination by storm. Her songs became very popular and everybody sang them. They were characterized as being contagious and their relativity was the reason for their quick fame.
Her first album, “She’s So Unusual”, She was so brilliantly portrayed in there with unforgettable hits like “Time After Time,” “True Colors,” and “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.” With her magnetic personality and dynamic performances, these songs have remained fan favorites over the years over the years.
Lauper got more and more famous for her musical abilities and artistic roles after winning the Grammy in 1985 for Best New Artist. She was able to follow that up by emerging as a Tony-winning star, winning an Emmy, MTV VMA, and making countless hits with radiant music and sturdy spirit.

Behind all the songs and dance sequences, however, there was this woman with a health issue affecting her personal life-the struggle with psoriasis since 2010, which can be characterized by patches that are itchy, scaly, and inflamed joints.
It would not be until 2010 that Lauper started having a few problems. During some of her many stops on the road, she would find herself experiencing a significantly itchy scalp yet again. She entertained worried thoughts that her scalp was getting badder due to those always colorful hairstyles.
From then up until 2010, this artist would experience painful flare-ups and a scalp that progressively out-leaked up to 200 scales. Her life used to stop completely due to very painful and debilitating psoriatic symptoms.
In a very candid interview with People magazine that went public around 2015, Lauper compared her own predicaments to those of “the elephant man” while sharing the sorrow of how the incident shook her self-esteem and affected her social life. At age 68, she shared the help she found with medicinal herbs.
Her struggle with psoriasis also impacted her image. Iconic styles were swapped for wigs and turtlenecks, leaving her feeling, in her words, “like a nun.” Despite this, the health challenges she faced required a level of inner strength that transcended her artistic performances.
Despite everything, Lauper has consistently maintained a positive and growth-oriented perspective on life. In a 2016 interview with Closer Weekly, she shared that although the journey has been challenging, her goal was to “bring a lot of light” into her life, supported by the strong bonds she shares with her family.
Acknowledging that over 7.5 million people around the globe also live with psoriasis gave her a sense of solidarity and a candid motivation to help others facing the same struggle. Since 2015, Lauper has been actively involved with Novartis and the National Psoriasis Foundation, helping to launch the MoretoPsoriasis.com platform to increase awareness about skin conditions.
Lauper’s remarkable musical talent was evident at last December’s New Year’s Eve celebration, where she illuminated the stage alongside fellow artist Billy Porter in a moving performance of their song “True Colors,” once again showcasing her enduring vibrancy and strength.
